The Infra for Africa Forum and Africa50 General Shareholders Meeting, hosted by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, kicked off in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday 5 August 2026. The global gathering takes place at Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, from 5-6 August 2026 and convenes heads of state, private investors, developers, and experts to advance action that unlocks next-generation infrastructure and finances Africa’s economic transformation.

Alain Ebobissé, Group Chief Executive Officer, Africa50, launched the 2026 Infra for Africa Forum, introducing its theme “A Decade of Impact: From Vision to Delivery,” with an opening address underlining the role infrastructure plays in connecting capital to create markets and push Africa’s economy forward, to build a more sustainable, prosperous and resilient future.

The forum continued with keynote addresses from H.E. Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and Dr Sidi Ould Tah, President, African Development Bank Group and Chair, Africa50, as Tanzania rapidly positions itself as a key investment destination attracting the attention of the international finance community.

Following the forum’s high-level presidential dialogue to address how Africa’s significant gas resources can help close the electricity generation gap, contribute to climate resilience as a transition fuel, and provide the base for industrialization, two leading Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP), the Italian Financial Institution for Development Cooperation and the private sector financing arm of the Agence française de développement Group (AFD Group), Proparco, signed an agreement for climate finance on stage.

CDP, represented by Luca Quadrini, Head of Financial Institutions, Corporates and Funds, and Proparco, represented by Jean Guyonnet-Duperat, Regional Director for East Africa, signed subscription agreements to invest US$40 million and US$10 million, respectively, in the Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa – Project Development Fund (AGIA-PD).

Established by the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) and managed by CDP, the Italian Climate Fund is the principal instrument supporting investments in sustainable development and the climate transition under the Mattei Plan. Proparco’s commitment reinforces AFD Group’s strategic role supporting Africa’s public and private financial institutions in fostering innovation on climate action to achieve the broader goals of Agenda 2030 and SDG7.

Managed by Africa50, AGIA-PD is Africa’s largest climate-aligned development Fund, catalysing public, commercial, and philanthropic capital to unlock early-stage investment for transformative, climate-resilient infrastructure development in Africa.  It invests early-stage risk capital to develop bankable projects that accelerate green growth.

The Fund’s first close at US$118 million in August 2025 attracted leading investors including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the German Development Cooperation through KfW, the West African Development Bank (BOAD), the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Soros Economic Development Fund, and the African Climate Foundation (ACF).

With a target of US$400 million, it aims to generate up to US$10 billion in bankable green infrastructure investment opportunities on the continent.

Stephen Mari, Head of Debt and Equity Funds at CDP International Cooperation, said, “We are honoured to be among the founding Limited Partners (LPs) of the AGIA-PD Fund. Its mission to advance infrastructure development across Africa resonates strongly with the priorities of the Italian Climate Fund and the ambitions of the Mattei Plan. We look forward to deepening this collaboration as these resources are deployed in the years ahead.”

Tibor Asboth, Head of Private Equity for Africa and the Middle East at Proparco, said: “By investing in AGIA-PD, Proparco is supporting a transformative initiative aiming to increase the number of green infrastructure projects in Africa. Through its manager, Africa50, AGIA-PD participates in the acceleration of the energy transition on the continent and generates significant development impacts for local communities.”

Anas Charafi, Executive Director, AGIA Project Development Fund, Africa50, said, ‘We are very pleased to admit the Italian Climate Fund and Proparco, with whom we have worked from the early days of AGIA-PD, as part of the group of founding LPs. With this investment, the fund continues to mobilize large amounts of capital for project development, which remains the critical bottleneck for private investment in infrastructure in Africa.”
