Eminent chairpersons and senior directors of company boards have joined forces to launch Chapter Zero Southern Africa, which seeks to mobilise business to confront the looming climate emergency. Chapter Zero Southern Africa was launched to mobilise businesses to confront the climate crisis.

    1. It is the 29th chapter of the World Economic Forum’s Chapter Zero initiative and the 2nd in Africa.
    2. It aims to encourage board members to take climate action and halve emissions by 2030.
    3. Founding members include chairpersons from companies like Bidvest, PIC, Investec, Massmart and Imperial Logistics.
    4. Boards are uniquely positioned to drive climate action within their organizations through the right strategies and solutions.
    5. The private sector needs to act urgently to secure a sustainable future for Africa.
    6. The chapter will connect members to a network of over 100,000 directors globally.
    7. It will provide training to equip board members to drive impactful climate action within their organizations.
    8. The next 3 years are critical for businesses to halve emissions to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees by 2050, according to the IPCC.
