The Durban FilmMart has announced the selection of 35 participants from 22 African countries for its prestigious DFMI Business Lab, following a record number of applications.

    1. The DFMI Business Lab aims to provide filmmakers with essential skills and knowledge to effectively engage in the global film market. The participants will undergo a 12-week online business development program.
    2. Modules covered in the program include financial management, business management, intellectual property and entertainment law, distribution, and co-production, led by industry professionals from Burkina Faso, Canada, France, Kenya, South Africa, and the United States.
    3. The Lab has created a sense of community among the participants, fostering a peer-to-peer support system where filmmakers can freely share opportunities and learnings within the film industry.
    4. The selected participants represent a diverse range of African countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and many more.
    5. The DFMI Business Lab is presented in partnership with DW Akademie and supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, showcasing the international collaboration and investment in capacity-building on the African continent.
    6. This initiative serves as a significant opportunity for African filmmakers to enhance their skills, expand their networks, and contribute to the growth and development of the African film industry as a whole.

The DFMI Business Lab plays a crucial role in empowering and nurturing African filmmaking talent, facilitating their access to global markets and fostering collaboration within the industry.
