The Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) has opened applications for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), offering a five-year fixed-term contract with a remuneration package of up to R2.13 million per annum.
Established under the PanSALB Act of 1995, the statutory body is mandated to create conditions for the development, promotion and equal use of South Africa’s official languages. The appointment comes as PanSALB seeks to strengthen leadership capacity and advance language rights, policy implementation and institutional performance.
The CEO position is based at PanSALB’s head office in Arcadia, Pretoria, and carries an all-inclusive remuneration package ranging from R1.81 million to R2.14 million a year, structured flexibly to suit individual needs.
PanSALB is looking for a results-driven executive with an NQF Level 9 qualification, preferably a Master’s degree, MBA, or qualification in Human Sciences or Humanities, alongside at least seven years’ experience in a senior executive role. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of the public sector environment, including engagement with government across all spheres and community-based organisations.
Key competencies include financial management, strategic planning, performance management and organisational turnaround, as well as a deep understanding of relevant legislation such as the PFMA, Treasury Regulations, the Public Service Act, and the PanSALB Act. Experience in language rights, linguistic policy, research and national language development priorities will be critical, while proficiency in three or more official South African languages will be an added advantage.
Technical competencies required include strategic leadership, visioning, analytical thinking, business acumen, people management, programme and project management, and continuous improvement.
Interested candidates must submit a completed PanSALB application form, a cover letter, a comprehensive CV, and certified copies of qualifications and identity documents. Applications should be emailed to applications@pansalb.org, with enquiries directed to bertha@pansalb.org.
The closing date is 30 December 2025, and full details are available on www.pansalb.org/vacancies.
