Toyota is set to make a strong entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with its ambitious plan to launch 10 new electric models by 2026. The recent unveiling of the Urban SUV Concept showcases Toyota’s commitment to offering affordable EV options.

    1. Revealed at the annual Kenshiki forum in Brussels, the Urban SUV Concept previews a production model scheduled to launch in Europe in 2024. The concept is built on a dedicated EV platform and falls into the B-Segment SUV category, positioning it as a competitor to the Volvo EX30.
    2. The Urban SUV Concept measures 4.3 meters in length, making it one of the larger vehicles in its segment. It features a robust and SUV-like design, distinguishing it from Toyota’s BZ Compact SUV concept, which has a more coupe-like appearance reminiscent of the Toyota C-HR.
    3. Toyota aims to position the production version of the Urban SUV Concept as its most affordable EV model in the region. The compact SUV will offer a flexible interior that can adapt to prioritize passenger or cargo space as needed. It will be available in both single-motor front-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive variants.
    4. Toyota will provide customers with a choice of two battery variants with different capacities. This approach allows Toyota to cater to both cost-conscious consumers looking for an economical EV option and those seeking a longer driving range by opting for a higher-capacity battery.
    5. Alongside the Urban SUV Concept, Toyota also unveiled the Sport Crossover Concept, which previews a larger and more luxurious EV model developed in collaboration with BYD for the Chinese and European markets. Furthermore, the latest version of the FT-Se sports car concept was showcased, hinting at a potential electric successor to the iconic MR2 model.
    6. The FT-3e Concept presented by Toyota offers a glimpse into the company’s forthcoming EV architecture. This new platform will enable Toyota to develop a wide range of EV products, including the Lexus LF-ZC luxury sedan and the aforementioned FT-Se sports car. The focus will be on achieving lightweight design, optimized aerodynamics, and efficient resource usage.
