South African Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi expressed disappointment with the slow pace of transformation within the country’s economy.

    1. Speaking at a virtual Manufacturing Indaba, Nxesi said that while some progress has been made in terms of employment equity and black economic empowerment, it is not enough.
    2. He called on businesses to do more to promote diversity and transformation, saying that it is not just a moral imperative but also a business imperative.
    3. Nxesi highlighted the importance of job creation and youth employment, noting that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a particularly devastating impact on young people.
    4. He urged businesses to take advantage of government incentives and support programs to promote transformation and job creation.
    5. Nxesi also emphasized the need for greater investment in infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, to support economic growth and development.
    6. He praised the manufacturing sector for its resilience during the pandemic and its potential to drive economic recovery and job creation in the future.
