Employment and Labour Minister, Thulas Nxesi, invites public comments on the Draft Employment Equity (EE) Regulations 2023 regarding sector EE targets.

    1. The public has only five days to provide input on the proposed setting of sector targets, while the overall comment period is 30 days.
    2. The amended Employment Equity Act grants the Minister the authority to set numerical targets for sectors to ensure equitable representation of designated groups across occupational levels.
    3. Proposed targets cover population groups, gender, and employees with disabilities for the top four occupational levels.
    4. President Cyril Ramaphosa assented to the amended Employment Equity Act on 14 April 2023, enabling the introduction of sectoral numerical targets.
    5. Economic sectors subjected to the new EE Regulations include agriculture, manufacturing, construction, finance, transportation, and more.
    6. The closing date for comment submission is 12 June 2023, with specific email addresses provided for sending comments.
    7. Comments can be sent to: Innocent.Makwarela@labour.gov.za, Christina.Lehlokoa@labour.gov.za, Jullian.Mohale@labour.gov.za
