South Africa’s largest tech startup and investor network, Startup Club ZA, has announced the inaugural South African Startup Week (SASW). The three-day event is scheduled to take place at Makers Landing in the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, from 15 to 17 April 2026.
The initiative arrives amid a positive shift in the nation’s innovation landscape. According to the 2026 global startup ecosystem index by research platform StartupBlink, South Africa currently ranks as the top innovation hub on the continent, placing 61st worldwide with 52 points. The same report noted improvements across key indicators including regulation, access to capital, digital infrastructure, and international mobility .
Founded in 2023, Startup Club ZA (SCZA) operates across national event initiatives, digital platforms and early-stage capital. The organisation’s stated mission is to reduce friction, increase access, and create conditions for world-class technology ventures to emerge locally and compete globally. It has previously launched a central online platform, known as Platform ZA, to serve as a discovery point for hiring, job listings, news, and resources for the local tech ecosystem .
The first SASW is structured around three themed days: Inspire, Build, and Connect. Day one will feature founders from several prominent South African startups and scale-ups, including Yoco, PayFast, Yebo Fresh, FlexClub, and UCOOK, who are expected to share candid insights on pivoting, scaling, and navigating acquisitions. Day two will run 12 expert-led workshops covering product development, fundraising, legal considerations, sales, artificial intelligence, and founder wellness. Day three will close with curated networking activities, including an ecosystem walk or run, city-wide coffee meet-ups, and a private investor lunch for active capital deployers.
The founder of Startup Club ZA, Mathew Marsden, explained that the event had been designed to address a long-standing gap in the local market. He stated that it would allow founders and investors to capitalise on the existing momentum within the South African startup sector. Marsden added that Startup Week would bring together the people building and backing the country’s most ambitious companies in one city over three days, and expressed pride in helping to establish what could become a landmark annual gathering for the local ecosystem.
The event is open to founders, their teams, investors, and aspiring innovators at any stage. Day tickets and full-week passes are available for purchase. Organisers have confirmed plans to expand the concept, with a Johannesburg edition scheduled for later in 2026.
