The Press Council of South Africa has announced the appointment of Mr Tsile Maswanganyi as Communications Manager, effective from 16 March 2026. His appointment strengthens the Press Council’s capacity to promote ethical journalism, editorial governance, public accountability, and trust within South Africa’s media landscape.

Mr Maswanganyi has over 15 years of senior-level experience in corporate communications, media relations, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communication across the media, public, and private sectors. He has held senior communication roles at notable organisations, including the Independent Electoral Commission and POWER FM 98.7. He holds an MBA, a BA Honours in Political Science, and a BA in Communication Science.

In his new role, Maswanganyi will lead the Press Council’s communications strategy, media relations and public outreach. His responsibilities will include strengthening public awareness of the independent co-regulatory system, broadening stakeholder engagement, and supporting initiatives that promote ethical journalism and media accountability.

The Executive Director of the Press Council, Dr Phathiswa Magopeni, states: “This appointment comes at a critical time for journalism and public confidence in the news and information ecosystem. Maswanganyi brings valuable strategic communications expertise and a deep understanding of the media environment. His appointment enhances our ability to communicate the Council’s work more effectively and to strengthen public engagement with the principles that underpin responsible journalism.”

Commenting on his appointment, Maswanganyi states he is honoured to join the institution and contribute to its mission. “It is a privilege to join the Press Council of South Africa to contribute to an institution that plays a vital role in upholding ethical journalism and public trust in the media. I look forward to contributing to its work by strengthening communication about its role, expanding public awareness of the Press Code of Ethics and Conduct and the complaints system, and supporting initiatives that reinforce ethical journalism and accountability.”

The Press Council looks forward to Maswanganyi’s contribution in advancing transparent, effective, and principled communication in support of a free, responsible, and ethical media.
