Newcomer T2 Targets Adventure Seekers in SA

    October 27, 2025By Staff Writer
    New Jetour T2

Chinese automaker Jetour has introduced its T2 SUV to the South African market, marking the arrival of the first model in its T-series of outdoor-focused vehicles. Unveiled alongside its smaller sibling, the T1, at a media event in Cape Town, the T2 is positioned as a rugged, adventure-ready option designed to compete with established brands in the region’s growing SUV segment. According to Wheels24, Jetour plans to commence sales in mid-November 2025 through its network of 55 dealerships across Southern Africa, following a year of expansion since the launch of its Dashing and X70 Plus models in 2024.

The T2 shares a unibody platform and engine options with the T1 but distinguishes itself with larger dimensions and a more robust aesthetic tailored for off-road enthusiasts. Available in three variants—Aspire, Xplora, and Odyssey—the T2 offers two turbocharged petrol engines. The entry-level Aspire features a 1.5-litre unit producing 125kW and 270Nm, driving the front wheels. In contrast, the higher-spec Xplora and Odyssey models are equipped with a 2.0-litre engine delivering 180kW and 375Nm, paired with Jetour’s XWD Intelligent four-wheel-drive system and eight driving modes, including Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and a versatile X-mode, as detailed by Car Magazine. All variants come with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, ensuring smooth performance across diverse terrains.

Dimensionally, the T2 measures 4,785mm in length, 2,006mm in width, and 1,880mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800mm and a ground clearance of 220mm—slightly larger than the T1’s 4,705mm length and 200mm clearance. This makes the T2 better suited for off-road adventures, while the T1 is marketed as a more urban-friendly option, according to AutoTrader South Africa. The T2’s design incorporates practical features like a roof rack, auto-folding side mirrors, privacy glass, illuminated door sills, and LED lighting across headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights, enhancing its appeal for both functionality and style.

Inside, the T2 boasts a 15.6-inch floating infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a premium Sony audio system, and leather upholstery accented with red stitching. Safety and convenience are prioritised with a 540-degree camera system, rear parking sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring. While Jetour has yet to release a comprehensive specification list for each trim, the inclusion of 19-inch alloy wheels and advanced driver aids positions the T2 as a feature-rich contender in the mid-size SUV market, as noted in Business Day Motoring.

Pricing for the T2 is competitive, with the 1.5T Aspire starting at R569,900, the 2.0T Xplora at R639,900, and the top-tier 2.0T Odyssey at R679,900. Each model is backed by an industry-leading warranty package, including a seven-year/200,000km vehicle warranty, a seven-year/75,000km service plan, and a 10-year/1-million km powertrain warranty for the first owner, as highlighted by TopAuto. This robust aftersales support underscores Jetour’s commitment to building trust in a market where Chinese brands are still establishing their reputation against rivals like Toyota and Ford.

Jetour’s entry into South Africa comes amid a broader push by Chinese automakers, with brands like Chery and Haval gaining traction through competitive pricing and modern designs. Bloomberg reports that Chinese vehicles accounted for 6.2 per cent of South Africa’s new car market in 2024, a figure expected to grow as brands like Jetour expand their dealership networks and product offerings. The T2’s focus on off-road capability taps into the country’s love for outdoor lifestyles, with its four-wheel-drive models targeting buyers seeking versatility for both urban commutes and weekend escapes.

As Jetour prepares to roll out the T2 across Southern Africa, its combination of advanced technology, rugged styling, and attractive pricing positions it to capture a share of the competitive SUV segment. The brand’s rapid dealership expansion—doubling from 25 to 55 outlets in 18 months, per IOL Motoring—signals confidence in sustained growth. With its debut now complete, the T2’s performance in showrooms will test Jetour’s ability to convert early buzz “[T]he T2’s combination of modern tech and off-road prowess could shake up the local market,” into lasting success in a crowded and discerning market.
