This Iconic South African Cider Just Made History

    August 27, 2025By Staff Writer

Savanna Premium Cider has once again proven why it’s regarded as one of the world’s top cider brands. Recently, it achieved remarkable success at two prestigious awards — the International Cider Challenge (ICC) in the UK and the South African Food and Beverage Awards.

At the ICC, one of the most respected competitions in the world, Savanna’s South Ahh range earned top honours. The brand won the trophy for Best Range Design and Packaging, with each of its variants — Savanna Dry, Light, Angry Lemon, and Neat — receiving gold medals for their packaging. In addition, all four variants also secured bronze medals in the taste category, highlighting their flavour quality.

The judges, led by ICC chair Adam Wells, described this year’s entries as some of the best they’ve seen in years. This recognition cements Savanna’s position on the global cider stage, establishing it as a true leader in both design and taste.

Back home in South Africa, Savanna continued its winning streak at the SA Food and Beverage Awards, in collaboration with the Aurora International Taste Challenge. The brand earned three gold medals for its Dry, Angry Lemon, and Neat variants, with a silver medal awarded to the Light version. This demonstrates the brand’s consistent excellence in flavour across all its products.

Savanna is known for using juicy apples, carefully fermented to achieve a dry finish, and cold filtered to ensure crispness. Its unique toasted oak essence gives the cider its unmistakable dry and refreshing taste. The cider is best enjoyed ice cold, often with a slice of lemon in the neck of the bottle — a signature touch that has helped build its iconic status.

For nearly 30 years, Savanna has stayed true to its premium quality and South African roots. The brand’s strategic marketing and authentic flavour continue to turn heads worldwide. From the zesty punch of Angry Lemon to the smooth depth of Neat and the easy-going Light, every variant is crafted with purpose and care.

These latest awards reaffirm what fans already know — Savanna isn’t just a great cider; it’s a global phenomenon that combines style, taste, and substance. And it’s been doing so for three decades. It’s dry, yet undeniably drinkable.
