Carlos Ghosn has sued Nissan for $1 billion (R18.4 billion) in a lawsuit filed with Lebanon’s public prosecutor last month.
- The lawsuit accuses Nissan, two other companies and 12 individuals of crimes including defamation, slander, libel and fabricating evidence.
- Nissan declined to comment on the lawsuit.
- Ghosn was arrested in Japan in 2018 and charged with financial misconduct, which he denied.
- He escaped Japan in December 2019 by hiding in a box on a private jet and fleeing to Lebanon.
- In Japan, Ghosn had been awaiting trial on charges of underreporting earnings, breach of trust and misappropriation of funds, which he denied.
- After arriving in Lebanon, Ghosn said he was escaping a “rigged” justice system in Japan and wanted to clear his name.
- A court session on the lawsuit will take place on September 18.
