Patricia Stock has been appointed as the new CEO of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (Saica), starting in December 2023.
- Stock previously served as the CEO of accounting and auditing company MGI RAS and has a master’s degree in international accounting from the University of Johannesburg.
- She has extensive experience in the accounting industry, having worked in various auditing positions at the Auditor General of South Africa and as a partner and head of transformation for BDO SA.
- Stock aims to champion excellence, innovation, and transformation at Saica, focusing on driving positive change within the organization.
- Freeman Nomvalo, the current CEO, will complete his four-year term in December, during which he addressed challenges faced by the accounting profession following scandals such as the collapse of Steinhoff.
Stock’s appointment as Saica’s new CEO is notable as she becomes the organization’s first black woman CEO, marking a transformative step forward in leadership diversity. The previous fine and barring of a former SAA board member and chartered accountant highlights the importance of upholding professional standards and ethics within the accounting profession. With her experience and vision, Stock is expected to lead Saica in promoting excellence, innovation, and transformation within the industry.
