Curro, a private school group, has flagged a jump in interim profit of 26.5% to 45.5%, but did not provide details why.
- The group forecasts its recurring headline earnings per share to rise to between 32.3c and 37.1c in its upcoming results.
- The recurring HEPS excludes R25 million long-overdue subsidy income received in the prior comparative period.
- In its 2022 annual results, Curro said 800 learners left citing emigration as the reason, up from 500 in 2021. This is about 1% of its total learners.
- Curro feels somewhat protected from emigration as its school brands cater to middle- and upper-income families.
- The CEO said Curro has been able to position itself to cater for diverse customers and keep growing despite emigration.
- There are also immigrants enrolling children at Curro schools but emigration is still a broader concern for South Africa.
- For 2022, Curro grew learner numbers by 6.4% to 70,724 at 181 schools.
