- The Minerals Council South Africa, an industry body representing mining companies operating in South Africa, has appointed Mzila Mthenjane as its new CEO, effective from 1 June 2023.
- He currently serves as the executive head of stakeholder affairs at Exxaro Resources, a South African coal mining company.
- Mthenjane is also the chairman of the board of trustees of the Council for Geoscience, a South African government agency responsible for conducting geoscientific research and providing geoscience-related services to the public and private sectors.
- As CEO of the Minerals Council South Africa, Mthenjane will lead the industry body’s efforts to advocate for the interests of the mining sector in South Africa, promote sustainable mining practices, and engage with stakeholders including government, labour unions, and communities.
- Mthenjane’s appointment has been welcomed by industry stakeholders, who see him as a respected and experienced leader who is well-suited to navigate the complex and challenging operating environment facing the mining sector in South Africa.
- Mthenjane takes over from Roger Baxter, who served as CEO of the Minerals CouncilSouth Africa’s Minerals Council has appointed Mzila Mthenjane as its new CEO, effective from 1 June 2023.
