MultiChoice South Africa has announced updated DStv prices for 2025, with several packages set to increase. The adjustments, revealed on Monday, apply to both satellite and streaming services.
For satellite subscribers, the Premium package will rise from R929 to R979, while Compact Plus moves from R619 to R659. Compact subscribers will see a modest increase of R10, raising the package price to R479. Family and Access packages will also increase by R10 and R11, respectively, while EasyView will rise by R1.
The Access Fee will go up by R5, while the Add Movies package will decrease significantly, dropping from R79 to R49.
Streaming Services have fewer changes. While DStv Stream and Showmax will maintain their current prices, Showmax PL will increase from R69 to R99. Showmax Entertainment Mobile will increase by R4, and Showmax Entertainment Mobile & Football will rise by R20. Showmax Entertainment & Football will climb from R140 to R149.
MultiChoice noted that these adjustments were influenced by the upcoming VAT increase in South Africa, which will rise to 15.5% from 1 May 2025. The company has indicated that further pricing adjustments may follow and promised to provide details in April 2025.
In addition to the price changes, MultiChoice announced that Premium, Compact Plus, and Compact subscribers now have access to an additional concurrent stream on any device.
To enhance value, MultiChoice has also expanded its channel lineup. Compact customers will receive five new channels: SuperSport Action, CBS Justice, Africa Magic Showcase, Curiosity, and The History Channel.
Family subscribers can look forward to three new channels: Comedy Central, HGTV, and Disney Channel, while Access customers will gain two new options: Zee World and Nicktoons.
Despite the increases, MultiChoice CEO Byron Du Plessis stressed that the company had carefully considered the financial pressures facing South African households. As a result, some packages and services, such as Showmax and DStv Stream, have remained unchanged.
