Japanese automaker Suzuki Motor announced on Tuesday that it has entered into an agreement with SkyDrive to jointly develop “flying cars.”
- The collaboration will utilize a Suzuki group factory in central Japan to manufacture electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Production is slated to commence within approximately one year, according to Suzuki’s statement.
- SkyDrive, headquartered in Toyota, Japan, boasts prominent shareholders such as trading house Itochu, tech firm NEC, and an Eneos Holdings subsidiary.
- As part of the partnership, SkyDrive will establish a wholly owned subsidiary responsible for aircraft manufacturing, while Suzuki will contribute by assisting with preparations, including talent acquisition, for the production process.
- This collaboration builds upon the initial agreement signed between the two companies in March of last year, which focused on joint research, development, and marketing efforts in the field of flying cars.
