JAECOO’s Latest SUV Captivates South African Buyers

    August 8, 2024

The fresh-faced urban off-road SUV brand JAECOO continues to gain popularity among discerning new-vehicle buyers in South Africa. The sophisticated new J7 model has further expanded its sales tally in July 2024.

Launched just three months ago in April 2024, the JAECOO J7 has taken the local market by storm. Priced from R549 900, this highly capable SUV features a modern yet classic design aesthetic. In July, the sleekly styled urban off-road contender helped JAECOO climb to an impressive 26th position on the list of 54 automotive makes reporting new-vehicle sales figures to industry body naamsa.

This remarkable feat is particularly noteworthy given that JAECOO’s current local portfolio comprises only the three-strong J7 line-up. The brand’s future plans include the introduction of the J7 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and the highly anticipated flagship J8, followed by the J6.

According to naamsa, South Africa’s domestic new-vehicle sales in July 2024 increased by 1.5% year-on-year to 44,229 units. The passenger-vehicle segment, of which the JAECOO J7 is a part, drove this growth with a 6.8% year-on-year increase to 29,934 units.

Notably, all of the JAECOO J7’s registrations in July came directly through the dealer channel, indicating strong private-buyer sentiment, unlike many rivals that relied on sales to the vehicle-rental industry.

“The importance of South Africa to JAECOO’s global ambitions is clear from the fact that our country was the first right-hand-drive market in the world to receive the new J7 as well as the very first overall in Africa. Judging by JAECOO’s astounding start in South Africa, this confidence is extremely well placed. We simply can’t wait to bring the next chapter in this growing success story,” said Shannon Gahagan, National Brand and Marketing Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa.
