ILF Consulting Engineers, an international engineering and consulting firm, has entered into a partnership agreement with Hyphen Hydrogen Energy for a green hydrogen project in southern Namibia.
- The project will be located in the Tsau // Khaeb National Park near Lüderitz and has a planned production capacity of 350,000 tons per year of green hydrogen at full scale.
- ILF, with its experience in green hydrogen projects in Canada, Finland, and Austria, will provide project management services, technical expertise, procurement and contract advice, and implementation expertise on socioeconomic development goals.
- The project aims to create 15,000 construction jobs, 3,000 permanent jobs, and achieve 30% local procurement.
- Hyphen is a joint venture between Nicholas Holdings Limited and ENERTRAG, with the Namibian government holding a 24% equity stake in the project.
- The project also intends to produce one million tons of green ammonia annually by 2027, with plans to increase production to two million tons by 2029, primarily for export.
- The CEO of Hyphen, Marco Raffinetti, sees ILF’s hydrogen expertise as crucial for meeting project timelines and supporting Namibia’s development objectives.
- Dr. Michel Kneller, Director of Hydrogen at ILF, considers the Namibian project a significant contribution to the global energy transition and describes it as a “lighthouse project.”
