Castrol FastScan Hits 1,440 Members in Six Months

    April 15, 2025

As South Africa’s first mechanic-focused rewards platform, Castrol FastScan has gained significant traction, passing 1 440 member sign-ups in less than six months since it was launched in October 2024. The rapid adoption signals strong demand for a platform that not only rewards mechanics for their loyalty to one of South Africa’s leading lubricants brands but also equips them with tools to run better businesses.

Originally developed as a global loyalty and rewards platform and successfully rolled out in the Indian market, FastScan has been tailored to the everyday realities of South African automotive workshops and reward local mechanics.

To do this, Castrol FastScan offers mechanics and small workshop owners a free, easy-to-use mobile app that allows them to earn rewards for Castrol purchases, delivers technical resources and simplifies daily operations — all in the palm of their hand.

“The speed and extent of adoption that we have seen with FastScan in such a short time confirms that we are adding significant value and helping to solving real challenges for mechanics and workshop owners,” says Salil Jambavdekar, Global Product Manager for Castrol “We’re not just rewarding mechanics for purchases; we’re helping them grow their skills, operate more efficiently and deliver better service to their customers.”

At the heart of Castrol FastScan is a straightforward QR code scanning system. Mechanics simply use the app on their mobile device to scan the codes found on select Castrol product packs. Each litre of qualifying product purchased earns the FastScan programme member a point. These points accumulate quickly as Castrol products are used – and can then be redeemed once a minimum threshold is reached. Currently, rewards are available for purchases of five leading Castrol product lines, namely Castrol GTX, MAGNATEC, CRB, Vecton and TRANSMAX, with more products expected to be added over time.

But it’s the value of the rewards and the simplicity of earning and redeeming them that really set FastScan apart as a leading loyalty programme in the automotive industry. Once enough points are earned, mechanics can immediately generate a digital voucher directly in the app. The voucher is sent to their cellphone via SMS and can be redeemed at a wide range of South African retailers – both online and in-store – for a selection of items ranging from groceries and appliances to tech gadgets and tools. There are no complicated steps and no delays. Mechanics simply use FastScan to scan, earn and redeem rewards – all from their phones.

Of course, the generous rewards available on Castrol FastScan are only one of the sources of value it offers. There’s an extensive knowledge hub built in to the app that gives users access to practical, up-to-date information, education and training via a range of “How To” videos and technical advice articles – helping them stay sharp as vehicle technologies evolve. Then, the Oil Finder tool helps identify and recommend the correct lubricant for various vehicle makes and models, saving time and reducing costly errors.

For small workshop owners, FastScan is a significant value-added business resource, allowing them to offer learning and incentives to their teams at no additional cost to their business and without unnecessarily disrupting operations.

“Castrol FastScan has become a business asset for many of our workshop partners,” Jambavdekar explains. “It supports teams on the ground, improves customer service and gives owners a way to grow and reward their people without taking them off the floor or investing their own capital.”

With the South African lubricants market projected to reach over 450 million litres by 2026, the importance in investing in the mechanics who are the key point of contact between lubricant producers and end-users is obvious. Castrol FastScan represents this investment in the country’s mechanics by Castrol, and the platform proves that a loyalty programme can, and should, be about more than just points — it should also be a tool for growth, efficiency and professional development.

Castrol FastScan can be downloaded free from Android and iOS app stores.
