The BMW 7 Series emerged as the winner of the 2024 SA Car of the Year (COTY) title, impressing jurors from the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) throughout the evaluation process.
- The Suzuki Fronx secured second place overall, with the BMW M2 claiming third in the competition among 18 finalists.
- The Managing Director of Old Mutual Insure (OMI), the main sponsor of COTY, expressed delight at the rapid advancements in the industry, particularly in automotive safety.
- The 2024 COTY competition featured 18 carefully selected finalists from 80 qualifying vehicles across various categories, including Budget/Compact, Compact Family, Family, Premium, Adventure SUV, 4×4 Double Cab, Luxury, and Performance.
- Category winners included the Suzuki Fronx, Toyota Urban Cruiser, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Mahindra Scorpio-N, Volkswagen Amarok, BMW 7 Series, and BMW M2.
- The Mahindra Scorpio-N won the “Motor Enthusiasts Choice” award based on public votes in a social media campaign led by OMI, recognizing the importance of public engagement in the competition.
- The BMW 7 Series also received the COTY Jurors Excellence Award, acknowledging the jurors’ admiration for its exceptional driving experience, vehicle quality, and craftsmanship.
